By the fire - To my father

The warmth of the bonfire

On this chilly night

Reminds me of you

And the childlike joy you used to feel

As we gathered the wood and carefully arranged each piece over the fire pit.

We would sit in a contemplative spirit, just watching it burn, sparkling blazes filling the dark sky.

You would tell us stories of days of old, childhood tails, a joke or two,

A smile and a tear.

And we would pause at times and say nothing.

Watching the fire glow made us complete as the moon and the stars traveled across the celestial spaces.

Now you are gone.

The fire and the night and the sky

Have become you.

By the fire I feel your peaceful presence and my soul is comforted by the memories of those moments we spent together as

Our eyes captured the eternity of each second.

Love's timeline crosses the infinite.
